How do I size an off-grid solar system for my appliances?

List the appliances you plan to run and how many hours a day each one runs. Multiply watts by hours to get watt-hours per day, then size your solar array to replace that energy in your available sun hours, your battery bank to store enough for your backup days, and your inverter to cover your peak running watts plus surge. Our system builder does this math for you as you add appliances and then picks matching products.

What size inverter, battery and solar array do I need?

Your inverter must handle your total running watts plus the biggest motor surge — we size it to running watts times 1.25. Your battery bank is sized from your daily watt-hours times your backup days, divided by system voltage, allowing for usable depth of discharge. Your solar array is sized to replace your daily watt-hours within your local peak sun hours. The builder calculates all three targets automatically.

How do I keep my off-grid components compatible so nothing gets damaged?

Every component in a system must share the same nominal voltage — a 24V battery bank needs a 24V-capable inverter and a charge controller rated for your array. The system builder flags any part whose voltage does not match your chosen system voltage and warns you when a part is too small for your load, so you cannot accidentally order a mismatched or undersized kit.

Should I choose a 12V, 24V or 48V off-grid system?

Use 12V for small cabins, RVs and weekend retreats up to about 1,500W of load. Choose 24V for most off-grid homes up to roughly 4,000W. Go with 48V for large homes and heavy loads — it is the most efficient and uses the least copper wire. The builder can pick the voltage for you based on the appliances you enter.
